Land Rover Repair: Service Engine Light, obd ii scan tool, kick panel

Question
John, I've read your answer and the Procedure on disco.org about going in at the kick panel, sticking a 3/16 metal rod in the hole of the emission reminder box.  I did that (I have a 99 Discovery).  I could not feel the prongs in the box.  Would the procedure be different on a 99?

Answer
Is your vehicle a Discovery I or a Doscovery II?

If it's a Discovery II there is no box; you use an OBD II scan tool to clear whatever faults are stored after you do any needed work.

If you have a Disco I the box does not really have prongs; they are contacts on a circuit board.  You can actually remove the box and that will get rid of the light for good.
