Land Rover Repair: 2001 Land Rover Discovery SE, land rover discovery, land rover discovery ii

Question
I just purchased a 2001 Land Rover Discovery II SE and have a couple of questions related to the entertainment features of the vehicle that I hope you or other users might be able to help me with:

(1) Satellite Radio -- is there any way to integrate satellite radio (either XM or Sirius) into the head unit without replacing the head unit or adding another unit on the dash?  I saw something about special tuners that connect with the radio deck that preserve the steering controls, but I'm not sure exactly hwo this works.  If it is not possible, do you have any suggestions for either places to install the sat rad and/or specific units (again, Sirius or XM) that integrate well with the LR?  I really do not want my dash to become "mission control";

(2) GPS -- the same thing for GPS.  Is there a good place to mount a GPS inside the vehicle?  Where have other people mounted it?;

(3) Tape Player Adapter -- I tried hooking up my MP3 player using a Sony tape player adapter (the ones with a line out attached to a cassette).  The LR accepted the tape, but then, after checking both sides, spit it out for not having any content.  The MP3 player was on and playing so I'm not sure why this would be the case.  Any suggestions?  Am I forced to go to a FM modulator instead of a casette adapter?;

(4) 6 Disc Changer -- I burned an audio CD on my home computer and attempted to play it in the 6 disc changer.  The changer did not recognize the CD as an audio CD even though it was burned as encoded audio (not MP3).  Are these CD players tempermental?  Is there a specific brand of CD that works better than others?

Finally, in an unrelated question, if I already have an extended APCO warranty in place, is it possible to extend the APCO warranty further?  Who do I contact to do so?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Josh

I see people putting the satellite units on the dash top, and they also have units that run off the lighter plug.  I suggest you talk to a car stereo installer.

There is no integrated satellite receiver for your vehicle.

Same answer as above, with one exception.  You can buy the factory navigation system from a 2003 and fit that, but it's a lot of work and almost $2,000 in parts.  So you'd still be better off with an aftermarket system.

(3) Tape Player Adapter -- I tried hooking up my MP3 player using a Sony tape player adapter (the ones with a line out attached to a cassette).  The LR accepted the tape, but then, after checking both sides, spit it out for not having any content.  The MP3 player was on and playing so I'm not sure why this would be the case.  Any suggestions?  Am I forced to go to a FM modulator instead of a casette adapter?;

I have never had good luck with tape adapters but that's just me.  Again, try a stereo installer.

This is probably a problem with the encoding used by your cd burning program, not the disc brand.  Try it in a few other changers and see what happens

You can call our office, 413 785 1665.  We are an APCO agent.  Even better, FAX your existing contract to 413 785 0970 first and I'll look it up and tell you your options.  We need to know the current mileage on the vehicle, too.

Good luck,
