Land Rover Repair: transmission ecu/ecm, amtrak service, ecu

Hello,
The dealer says the transmission ecm/ecu MAY be bad ($1300.00); they don't know??? as the trans on my 95 range rover is in limp mode?? what is your opinion??? Do you recommend a shop in the ny/nj area. I've heard about placing codes is this something I may be able to do.

If the shop says the trans controller "may be bad" with the expectation that you will buy a control unit with which to experiment, they are not a place I would recommend.

We are 2.5 hours from NY.  You may want to drive up here.  We can swap control units with one from our stock if necessary, and we can perform any other repairs needed.  There is Amtrak service back and forth to the city.
