Land Rover Repair: Radio And All Audio Sources Skip, audio specialist, interferring

Question
Hi John,
Like you, I love my 99' DISCO. Outside of normal maintenance, I haven't experienced any major problems. I do however have a problem with the audio (and have had it since I purchased it certified 4 years ago).

About nine (9) months after purchase, while playing the radio or CD player, the vehicle would make a very steady and consistent  hi-pitch noise. It had gotten to the point where I wouldn't turn it on. To make a long story short, I took it back to the dealer on numerous occasions, and they've done some of everything (so they say on some things). Some of them are checking proper ground, replace radio, replace amplifier, put on a new wiring harness.

It rectified the problem for about 9 months, but now as opposed to just the hi-pitch noise, the radio and all audio sources skip for about 6-8 seconds and then resume.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Thomas,

do you have a CD changer? I've seen this when the CD changer wiring harness was corroded.  I removed the changer and noises stopped.

I wonder if it's the security system that's interferring with the audio?

You should find an auto audio specialist to help locate this fault.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
