Land Rover Repair: ace valve block, dealer maintenance, 5k miles

Question
Recently my 2000 Discovery II Trek edition blew a hydraulic hose from the valve block to the front actuator.  The dealer advised that I replace all of them at a cost of $1400.00 when I told him that I just wanted to replace the one, he said it would cost $900.00 does this make sense to you?  The dealer also stated that he is unable to remove the ace filter from the valve block as it has fused itself inside the block.  He states that the extended warranty does not cover this.  The car only has 56k miles on it.  We bought it three years ago this month with less than 5k miles on it, three months after purchasing it needed a valve job and the heads turned, a year after owning it, the mas air sensor and housing had to be replaced, two years into ownership the radiator had to be replaced.  This car has only seen highway and around town driving.  The dealer states that he did all the maintenance up to the time that I purchased the car but, at 30k miles he still wanted me to do the 30k maintenance, at a cost of $700.00.  The dealer never stamped the book for any of the maintenance that they did, did they do the maintenance or not what is your opinion?

Answer
There is no way to tell what maintenance the dealer did or did not do from your story.  My experience with dealer maintenance is that its quality varies quite a lot.  Some dealers or technicians are careful, others are quick and sloppy.

ACE hoses are often not covered by extended warranty.

You might look at the list of shops on www.rangerovers.net and see if there are any properly equipped independents near you.  You might be able to find a better place - I don't know where you are or what's near you.

The other issues you mention are common on DII models
