Land Rover Repair: 1996 Discovery Check Engine Light, mass air meter, land rover specialist

Question
My 96 Disco "Check Engine" Light came on. A local parts shop used their OBDll scan tool and it showed P1172.
Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
P1172 means the signal from one of your o2 sensors is signalling a rich condition.  That could come from an injector leak, a misfire, a failed mass air meter . . . a number of things could set it.

You need to look at the live data from the engine and perform tests based upon what you see.  That may move beyond the abilities of the parts store person and his scanner.

You might try looking for a land rover specialist on www.rangerovers.net in their shop directory.

Good luck,
