Land Rover Repair: 1999 Disco dash & clock lights not working, dashboard lights, dash clock

Question
Hi John -
Question:  My dash lights and clock light have gone out.  Can I fix this problem myself?  Replace a fuse or bulb?  I don't want to take my vehicle in if I can do it myself.  Let me know what you would do.  Thanks!
Lisa

Answer
Hi Lisa,

chances are you can do this work yourself.  Usually, this is your Disco's way of saying a rear taillight or brake light is burnt out.  You will have to inspect all your exterior lights (front and back) to ensure they are working.  Turn all your lights on, flashers too, and walk around your Disco to inspect them.  Replace any bulbs that are burnt out, your owner manual explains this in good detail.

When you replace the bulb, inspect the bulbholder too!  It's possible that the contacts have corroded and may be shorting out.  This is common as our Disco's age gracefully. ahem.

Sometimes the entire dashboard lights can go out, sometimes just the clock and sometimes both.  'Prince' Lucas, the royale electric for Land Rover, can misbehave when it starts to fail.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
