Land Rover Repair: Electrical, fuse panels, steve cochran

Question
There was an email sent to you on 8/14/06 where a gentlemen (Steve Cochran) was refering to a problem where his radio worked intermittently than stopped. His cigarette lighter was showing no power and power seats stopped working. Interestingly enough, I am experiencing the same issue. I have checked the fuses under the dash, and the fuse under the hood. However have not checked the power going to the fuse box itself. I was just curious if you have received any more of these complaints and if we know the cause? The vehicle I am referencing is a 98 LR Discovery LE.

Answer
The fuse panels are known to corroded from in back when water from a leaky windshield gets into them.  You have to pull the box to check it.

In addition, you sometimes have corrosion problems in the box right behind the battery, out under the hood.
