Land Rover Repair: Four wheel indicator, indicator light, transfer case

Question
I recently purchased...you get that alot, eh?... 1996 disco se7. American version. It has the problem of the 4 wheel indicator light on in four high. I have a rover so I know the feel of locked hubs and they are in. I have tryed to put it in low and bring it back out while backing. She shifts into low and back just great, but won't let the hubs free. Any suggestions. My tyres can't take much longer and I don't want to get new ones till I fix it.

Answer
The light is on because the center differential is locked.  It's not a hi/lo or hub lock indicator.  Move the transfar case level left and right while moving slowly back and forth to try and get it free.  You may have to get under the truck and look at the linkage while someone inside moves it left and right to see the linkage.  When you do see it, oil it up really good until it comes free.

These problems are almost always external to the transfer case.  That is, the linkage outside is binding from lack of use.
