Land Rover Repair: locking problems with 96 Disco, radio interference, microwave towers

Question
Hi John I own a 96 Disco 3.8 ULP - I have had this for about 1 yr - since day one I have had trouble locking and unlocking the vehicle - thinking it was the remote I bought a new one and had it programmed at my local dealer - this seemed to work Ok for a few days then things went back to usual - at home here it seems to work ok but never first push on the remote button - at other locations it is near impossible to get the car to lock and unlock - sometimes taking half an hour to unlock it - this as you may imagine this gets a little frustrating - my wife has just about given up this car - she just leaves it unlocked - I have noticed that when it locks out - if I take the battery out of the remote - hold down the buttons for 5 or so secs then put it back together it does work on occassion - I have been told that this  alarm system is very prone to radiowave interference - be it microwave towers. etc? I have recently replaced the car battery hoping this may help rectify this problem - it's nearly got me to the point of disabling the immobilers - if this is possible - and take the risk! I love my Disco but this problem really gets me going hey !
I have also tried the alternative disable method discibled in the owners manual - drivers side door key sequence when it locks me out - this does let me into the car without the horn going off but when I try to start the car - this activates the horn - embarrassment + !
I have also read something about rolling codes and I am very careful not to push the remote while away from the vehicle - have you any idea what may be going on here?? - cheers Bruce

Answer
The receiver could be bad, the pushbutton unit could be bad, you might live in an area of radio interference, or a combination of all three.

You need to fix the system because the control for your door locks and the drive authorization for the engine are part of it.

As I recall there is a short length of wire that serves as an antenna under the left side dash.  You might also move that around.

There are diagrams on LRs web site but you have to be careful because once the sync between the aparm ecu and the engine ecu is lost the vehicle will have to be towed to a shop with t4 or autologic to be synchronized.
