Land Rover Repair: Changing Shocks on a 1997 Land Rover, Discovery series., land rover discovery, monroe shocks

Question
John, is changing the shocks on a 1997 Land Rover, Discovery series, something I want to tackle?  I am pretty handy on vehicles and have changed the shocks on some of my other American made vehicles, but I am a little uncertain about tackling a job a foreign made vehicle, either way it needs new shocks.  One last thing, if I do attempt it myself, do you recommend on the front shocks, removing the front tires and then taking the metal shields off to get to the shock?  I await your input.

Thanks,

Marshall Collins

Answer
Hi Marshall,

yes, remove the wheels and tower's on the front to remove the shocks.  The night before, apply some liquid wrench or other such penetration oil to these nuts.

Changing the shocks on your Disco is no different than most N.American models.  I replaced mine with Monroe shocks and it took me and my neighbour about 2 hours.  The hardest part was the rusted nuts.  An air gun would have been nice.

Write to me and I'll send you some more info.  AllExperts is unable to attach photos or diagrams.
