Land Rover Repair: Land Rover TD5 Gear box oil light comming on, land rover td5, faulty sensor

Question
Hi,

My 2000 Land Rover TD5 RHD AUTO, Is displaying the  RED gear box oil too hot light on dash, I do as told, pull over and wait to cool, but still happens, is this just a faulty sensor, I have had the car checked, gearbox oil is good, transfer box oil is good, no oil patches on floor, car drives and pulls well ?????
Any advice that you may have would be apprecitaed as I would like to damage my car as she has been very faithful and kind to me, I am very pleased with her and want to presrve her as much as possible.

Regards and Thanks in advance.

Gerald

Answer
Hi Gerald,

you did the right thing.  It's possible that the temperature sensor may be faulty but it's rare.  Perhaps the tranny oil is due to be replaced?  For that matter, when was the vehicles fluids last replaced?  The levels may be good BUT if the fluid is old it is not performing as it should.  Hydraulic fluids can break down over time and absorb moisture.  It has been suggested that all fluids should be replaced every 2 to 3 years.

Best of luck,
