Land Rover Repair: freelander rear tailgate/window, rear tailgate, torx screws

Question
freelander GS TD4 02 reg.Hi John,Just seen your  reply to R reg freelander tailgate problem [ dated3/5/2006?] yesterday[ 27/4/2006].My fault is similar in that the the window did not drop on operating the door catch so the door could not be opened. As suggested I disconnected the battery for 10seconds+ and reconnected, the window did not drop but the door catch released but obviously the door would still not open because the glass did not drop.Trying the lowwering switch on the dash only produced alarm note.I then removed the trim panel with difficulty, then loosened 3 bolts holding the motor and pulled it to the right and took out the 4 torx screws holding the motor cover .After removing the multi connecter I removed the motor cover carefully leaving the thick grey gasket behind. The cover does not come off easily due to the magnetism of the fields/armature.I then rotated the armature away from the stall position ie anti clockwise for a few turns [be careful ]and was then able to apply leverage on the glass clamps to drop it about 5ml. I repeated the rotating of the armature and then levered the glass down a further 5mm.This now let me open the door,I then replaced themotor cover and refitted it to the door and reconnected the multi plug.I now turned ign key to pos. II and the window lowered when dash switch pressed.I then proceeded from your step 5 tocalibrate successfully. This is fine but the tailgate has failed the same way 3 times in 2 days.Have you any thoughts on this problem as it is becoming a pain. Please post on notice board as well.

                      Hopefully yours

Answer
Hi Wal,

wow! All that work and it's still a problem.  Clearly, you have a problem that LR has to address.  Have you contacted LR Head Office?

I'll let other Freelander owners know about your temporary fix.

It has to be a design flaw.

Regards,

JohnMc
