Land Rover Repair: Disco II SE7 unknown light, advance auto parts, advance auto parts store

Hi,
I own a 2001 SE7. Recently, when I go into reverse, a light comes on under my Check engine soon light (that's on also) on the left hand side.
The light looks like two gears with a small line in the between them. It goes off as soon as I get out of reverse.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Hi Josette,

that warning light you describe is the transfer gearbox in Neutral.  It could be just a warning or it could be indicating a possible problem with the transfer gearbox.  Best to have an experienced LR technician look at that.

If you CHECK ENGINE light is on, an error has been trapped and the code(s) should be evaluated by a mechanic.  You could go to a local Advance Auto parts store and ask them if they could read the code(s) for you.  Most offer this service for free.  They'll use a OBDII code reader to get the code(s) and reset them if necessary.

The codes can help point out problems and possibly lead an experienced mechanic to the faulty component.
