Land Rover Repair: ABS, TC, HD Warning lights On, new englander, class action suit

Question
Thanks John! Good to know you're a New Englander as well!

I went to the dealer and it was actually the ABS sensor on the front right wheel.  The dealer initially wanted to change the entire hub (all sensors included), but I went to speak to the machanic working on my car, and after asking several pointed questions, he agreed that just changing the sensor would be a better idea.  In fact, I pursuaded him to use a used sensor from another Disco that they had in the shop (the car had been in a major accident and was being recycled for parts - my luck!).  They sold me the part for half the price!  Needless to say, the service consultant was not happy!

I saved a TON of money and so far my car is running good.  I'm on to leaks now! Can you fix leaks on the radiators on these cars or do you have to get an entire new one!

Thanks again!

Osmar

Hi-

I have read extensively about your "3 amigos" - ABS, TC and HD warning lights on LR Discos.

I own a '01 LR Disco (90k miles), and yes, i have been visisted by these compadres!  Is there a recall on this? Any solutions you might have?  I noticed the other day on the snow that my ABS works (vibration on pedal), but at times I think it doesn't.  My TC control defintely stopped working - I could tell as my wheels were spinning on the slipeery snow.

My brakes were done last year (did not use Geneuine LR parts though).  I have not replaced the disks.

Let me know your thoughts.

Hi Osmar,

I use to live in Boston.  Actually, it was Acton but close enough!

Ahhh...si...los compadres!  Senors ABS, TC et HDC.  There is no factory recall (yet) and many owners have written to the DOT in their states and provinces.  One owner has filed a class action suit.  If you are interested to know the status of this legal action, contact Mr. Champana:

The ABS usually keeps on working however the other features seem to shut down.  Clearly, they get their instructions from the ABS ecu.

I doubt it has to do with brake pads or wear of the rotors.  Its probably a ABS pump or modulator that is the root of this problem.

Hi Osmar,

you just never know what can cause ABS faults and it seems like some service managers are only interested in their commissions and the 'sales' they generate for the dealership.  There is something very wrong with this type of service.

As for your radiator, if its leaking there is little that can be done.  If its a solid joint on the outside, perhaps, but usually its within the tiny tubings (core).  Just have it re-cored at a fraction of the original price.  All radiator shops can recore a LR rad.  This is what LR would do...subcontract the work to that very same rad shop!

Thank you for the feedback.  I'm glad it only cost you a wheel sensor.
