Land Rover Repair: 98 Discovery Rear View Mirror Messed Up!, rear view mirror, interior mirror

Question
I have a 1998 Discovery and the interior mirror (which is supposed to be auto dimming) has turned a dark color. I am assuming the interior chemical reaction has somehow malfunctioned and would like to replace the mirror. I have thought of three options: (1) Live with it since I can still see out of it - (2) Replace it with a standard mirror (possible?) since the auto-dimming is not something I really need - and (3) The most painful...pay $300 to LR for an unnecessary (and already proven faulty) luxury extra.  HELP!

Answer
Hi Mark,

just go to www.car-part.com and perform a search on your vehicle with part rear view mirror. I did a quick one and found dozens, highest price was $125 for a 1999 and the lowest was $20 for an auto-dim on a 1996.  Lots of '98 mirrors too...if you want.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
