Land Rover Repair: Steering issues, wheel bearings, left front tire

Question
Hello John,
I recently purchased a 94 disco with only 42k. I live in japan. While doing JCI (japanese inspection) I failed because 1 tire was too big, it stuck out from the fender well. Yes only one, and they are all the same size. The only thing I notice wrong is the toe in might be out. because both front tires are pointed out like duck feet, and the left front tire is obviously out further than the right. Also the steering wheel is cocked to the right about 45 degrees, while going straight down the road. It does not pull to either side at all.
Will having the Toe adjusted straighten the steering wheel? Can the toe in be adjusted like normal? How involved are changing wheel bearings?
thank you so much for any help
Moose

Answer
Hi Moose,

I don't believe that just adjusting the toe will correct the misaligned steering wheel.

Remember this, Disco's have a solid axle, so castor and camber angles are not adjustable. Only the toe in/out is adjustable.

If I were you, I'd check for worn swivel bearings and replace the wheel bearings.  Usually, the swivel bearings are the fault here.

Next, check the balljoints, track rod and drag link.
Steering column and steering box will have to be inspected and ajustments can be made.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
