Land Rover Repair: check engine, discovery 98, component failure

Question
Discovery 98.  I tried the reset procedure by disconnecting the negative terminal for about 10 secs.  It did not correct the problem.  It actually triggered a problem that did not exsist prior.  I now also have the anti lock light remaining on.  I have never had this alert before.

Answer
Hi Jason,

if after resetting the system and the Check Engine light reappears, there is clearly an component failure that must be addressed.  Next time you have a Check Engine light, have someone with an OBDII reader give you the actual codes.

As for the ABS, this is a common problem with LR vehicles and most LR owners would back me up on this.  The ABS light could have been triggered any number of events.  Not many OBDII readers can read ABS codes so you'll need to visit either a LR dealership or a LR mechanic to have the code revealed AND to reset all codes.

I have never heard of the ABS fault caused by the disconnection of the battery negative cable.  There must have been an underlying problem to generate this.

Find someone to read the codes, there must be a link to both problems.  BCU or ECU could do this.
Best of luck with this,
