Land Rover Repair: Engine surging, vacumn, gas tank

First: thank you for the advice. I have been putting a higher grade of fuel and have seen a difference but it still seems to surge. I was filling up yesterday and the gas cap seems to have a huge amount of vacumn, SO I decided to drive it without the cap and it ran great. What exactly is clogged a fuel tank vent?

Hi Joel,

don't overfill the fuel tank.  That vacuum you hear is normal.  If you're having 'sending' problems with fuel, it could be your fuel pump OR your filter.  Change the filter first...its cheaper!

I believe the venting pipe runs up to the fuel entry opening.  If your venting line is blocked, you'd have to drop the gas tank and inspect the nozzle entry pipe.  You could try leaving the cap on but not completely tight.  Some owners have done this.
