Land Rover Repair: ABS Random Failure - Please for the love of LRs HELP!!!, wheel sensors, abs light

Question
Hi John,
I stumbled on your question and am experiencing the same
problem.
My ABS randomly fails which  is quite scary because you never
now if your stopping distance is going to be normal or double.
sometimes the ABS light is on, sometimes off. It doesn't seem to
matter. Sometimes its fine for days, sometimes it fails two or
three times in a row.
My dedicated LR mechanic can't find the problem and is about to
give up! I have spent thousands replacing ABS sensors, A CV
joint etc. to no luck.
Were you able to figure it out?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

Answer
Hi Max,

when the ABS light shows up be assured that you still have brakes.  Our Disco's are heavy vehicles, more so than most 4x4's, and so we have to anticipate traffic braking patterns even when the ABS works.

Its a real mystery as to why LR's have so many ABS problems.  Most other makes don't have the nagging problems we always have.  If its not the modulator its the wheel sensors or the seals...or the pump or ...

Its an ongoing problem that is "an enigma wrapped in a mystery".

Best of luck,

JohnMc

For me, it was wheel sensors.
