Land Rover Repair: Left turn problems, land rover specialists, cv joint

Question
About a week ago I begain to make a left hand turn and my wheel started to shake as if my alignment was really off. After I begain going straight the shaking went away but the next day when I was making the same left turn it happened again.I took it to a Big O to have it looked at and they said it was fine. Now when I make any left turn and i'm going slow (like pulling into a parking lot) I feel and hear clunking and clicking. I believe it is the CV Joint that needs to be replaced. I have called two different Land Rover specialists and they have the same suspicion. one says that the entire assembly will need to get replaced while the other says only the joint. The difference in costs is $500.00 vs. $1200.00. What do you think? If it does sound like the CV what is the best repair and a realistic price to do it? Thanks

Answer
Hi Ted,

yes...its sounds just like the CV problem I had last year.  Ouch.  If you don't act soon, you'll be unable to move the vehicle and then you'll have a towing bill to add to your costs.  It cost me $2500, half was for labour.

If you're in the US, yes, expect to pay about $1500.  Get a written estimate BEFORE servicing your Disco.  You don't want any more surprises.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
