Land Rover Repair: transfer case banging noise entering reverse, brake bands, zf transmission

Question
Hi John,
Firstly let me convey my gratitude for the info u 've provided to every land rover lovers as I'm able to steal them for myself n my friends.

Now, I'm irritated by the intrucsive 'clank'each time we engage into reverse unlike the older transmission where there are brake bands for us to tighten so tht there isn't this free banging when we shift into reverse...wot can be done ?

Oh,I've a 1995 discovery 3.9 with this 'modern ZF' transmission..I ve tried every ZF's in range's or  disco's they produce this clank ..everyone of them. Pls help n many thanks agin John

Answer
Hi Andrew,

lately, while suffering from a slow transfer case leak, I've notice a sharp bang when engaging reverse.  Perhaps it could be fluid related.

Thanks for the kind words.  If it helps you out, I'm glad.

Here's a great website that has all sorts of resources in the LR community.  Perhaps you could find more info there...

IF you do, please let me know.

Best of luck,
