Land Rover Repair: LR Discovery 99 rear window washer, washer pumps, right hand drive vehicles

Question
I have a 99 Disco and the rear window washer fluid will not spray out.  I have pulled off the knob at the back to see if washer fluid is making it to that spot but it is not.

The pump is working fine, water sprays out the front ones just fine.  Where does that line travel, I cannot figure out where that line gets from the front of the vehicle to the back?  Where or how do I check the line along the way to find where it is being blocked?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jason,

the rear washer tubing runs from the reservoir up thru the front corner support column, thru the roof and over to the door.  The tubing run from the reservoir to rear door washer jet differs between left and right hand drive vehicles. On right hand vehicles the tubing run is on the left hand side of the roof. On left hand drive vehicles, the right side.

Normally, there is always fluid present in the tubing, thus no priming is necessary and it prevents any clogging.  IF there is a problem, it could be the rear washer pump in the reservoir, the switch OR the rear washer jet is fouled.

What you do not know is that there are 3 separate washer pumps: windscreen, rear and headlamp and they are all found in the reservoir. So you may have a problem with your rear washer motor/pump.

I suppose you could swap the rear hose with the windscreen hose to see if the tubing and jet works.  If it does then you know its the rear pump.

Best of luck,
