Land Rover Repair: 2001 discovery II vibration, rubber coupling, alignment system

Question
I have a 2001 discovery se7.4.0,82,000 miles. I have a problem with a vibration. It appears between 43-47mph. I tried switching all 4 tires and rims, still there. Had the vehicle aligned and the tires balanced, with both sets.Problem still there. The vibration is there in gear or in neutral, I have even tried revving the engine in neutral during vibration no change. I have tried grabbing the drive shafts and shake them,(not at 45) they dont appear apear to have any play. The fluids are good in the front and rear pumpkins. Transmission fluid is good to go, as with the gear box. It seems also to get worse with more people in the car? Please help, im lost. Thank You, Dennis Fla.

Answer
Hi Dennis,

since you've had an alignment done, the usual ball joint, shocks and coils could be ruled out, so long as they were inspected at the same time.  Most professionals who perform alignments would check this first and an alignment system would normally reveal these problems.

You mention that the vibration appears at a certain speed and intensifies when under load.  How about the condition of the rubber coupling or 'donut' at the end of your driveshaft?  Telltale sign that this is your problem is that the vibration goes away the moment you release the gas pedal. I doubt its the driveshaft just the rubber coupling.  Not expensive to replace and carefully mark driveshaft position with chalk if you do this yourself.

Best of luck,
