Land Rover Repair: transmission, obdii code reader, diagnostic code

My chck engine light has come on and I was told by someone it may mean I am having transmission problems. It is time for my 90k service could that trigger it?

Hi Clint,

CHECK ENGINE light has codes attached to it.  Depending on the model and year of your Land Rover, you can either look under the passenger's seat and read the OBD (On Board Diagnostic) code that is displayed OR attach a OBDII code reader and read/reset certain codes.  

The SERVICE ENGINE light/reminder is a different matter and normally requires the dealership to reset.

Are you having transmission problems?  Who informed you of this and how did they know?  I'd need to know which LR you have, year, engine size, auto or manual transmission.
