Land Rover Repair: Door Locks, white lithium grease, dirt and grime

Question
I have a Land Rover Disco – 95'.  I've recently been having problems with the door locks.  First the little clicker (fob?) broken so I couldn't lock it with that.  I can't lock it on the driver's side either.  So I've been going around to the passenger side, reaching through and locking the driver side, which locks all the doors, then shutting the passenger door while holding the handle up so that it locks.  Now I got the clicker fixed and it was locking and unlocking the doors great for about a week.  Now the clicker only sets the alarm and locks the back doors.  It doesn't lock the front doors.  Pushing down the driver lock now locks all the doors except the passenger door.  I'm not sure this makes any sense, but I'm really getting frustrated.  It takes like 10 minutes to lock my doors.  I could really use some help.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Allie,

I've had similar problems with my '95 Disco.  I've had to remove the door panels and lubricate all the moving parts associated with the door locking mechanism, the door handles, the latches and the windows.  I've found that over time, dirt and grime has built up and fouled the 'joints' of all these devices.

I use white lithium grease to lubricate these parts because it can resist water and provides corrosion protection.  Corrosion is a Disco's worst enemy!

So lub up your doors and give your locks another try.  If that does not work, you could have a problem with your multi-function module (controls windows and door locks).

Best of luck,
