Land Rover Repair: CD Player, cd stacker, cotton buds

Question
We just purchased a 1996 Land Rover Disco SE7.  The CD player works but for some reason the band on the radio does not show "CD" when selecting a band so no sound comes out the speakers.  You can tell that it is working but nothing.  It is located under the passenger seat.  What do we need to do/check to get the radio to register the "CD" setting on it.  Our 16 year old son is devastated!  Help!

Answer
Hi Severt,

for the sake of family sanity (I have a teenager too!) here is what I have collected from other Disco owners who have had CD player problems:

Check the fuse in the remote CD changer.

Remove and reconnect the CD changer lead and retry.

Remove the CD/Radio; disconnect/reconnect CD changer lead on read and retry.

With cd stacker mine stuck the other day on display it said cd error i removed unit and stripped found rollers that pull the discs in and out very dusty cotton buds and thinners soon had it back to normal!

Best of luck with this, Severt.  If none of these tips help I suggest you take it to a local auto sound store for further work OR ask your LR dealer to point you in the right direction.

Regards,
