Land Rover Repair: engine start, then sputters and turns off, rangie, sensitive components

Question
I cleaned engine with degreaser and then sprayed with water, I did this while the engine was running. I drove it for about 1.5 miles, pick up a movie, started up fine. AS i left the parking lot engine turned off. Engine wants to start but it stutteres then turns of. Did i get something wet or did i do some damage? Its cold in ohio also. What should i check to solve the problem before i pay a mechanic

Luis,

how is your vehicle behaving?  Any improvements over time?  Did you 'dry out' your LR in a heated garage?

With all the snow in the forecast, I thought about you and your 'frostbitten' LandRover.

Best of luck,

Hi Luis,

the most common problem that I've seen when someone washes the engine is that either the coil, alternator or spark amplifier module (SAM) gets damp.  Usually, its the SAM that fails as it is the most sensitive of the three components.

If you have the tools, test the spark.

I'm almost sure its the SAM.

You could take your vehicle (Disco? Rangie?) to a HEATED garage and pray that it only needs to be thawed out.

Best of luck,

JohnMc

NB:  I hate when someone says this to me but I have to ask:  Why did you do it?  Especially in mid-winter?  LR's are notorious for suffering under damp and cold conditions.  I dread taking my Disco thru a carwash during the winter - I never know what is going to freeze and fail.  Lastly, most engine cleaning should be done at the dealer - they have a special cleanser and wax-like application that resists oil and grime.  Did you 'bag' the sensitive components?
