Does anyone have any info regarding a suspension fault on the new Disco 3?

My car shut down its suspension system, and following a visit to my local dealer, was advised that one of the sensors had failed. The car was 3 weeks old! The part was replaced, and a modification to to the sensor housing was advised by LR UK. Since then we have had about 3 similar faults, which seems to rectify itself by turning the ignition off, and then restarting the car! Not what you should expect to have to do! The dealer has been in touch with LR and they assure me that this is a one off! I still dont think this is the correct cure in the long term. Your advises would be welcomed.

Hi Alan.

This is the first EAS problem from a LR3 for me.  I know that many Range Rover (rangie) owners have had troubles with the air suspension and we all hoped that the LR3 would be exempt from them.  It would appear that the same trouble is haunting the LR3.

LR is known to carry over 'working' components to newer models and perhaps they incorporated the Rangie suspension in the LR3.  IF that is the case, you've inherited a problem that goes back a few years.

I would advise you to keep after LR on this problem. You've paid for a 'totally new' LR and you are having troubles that plague older LR's.  So long as your warranty lasts, LR will take care of the problem.  What you don't want is a monthly visit to the LR dealer to cure a suspension problem.

If I were in your driver's seat and this problem becomes persistent, I'd consider a replacement or I'd escalate the problem to LR directly.  A vehicle that is advertised to be tested over 4 million miles should not have problems like this.

I wish you luck with this,

JohnMc

Hi John, thanks for your response. We now have the vehicle back, and the diagnosis seems to have been water intrusion into one of the suspension sensors. They sent back the replaced part, and there was corrosion around the contact points in the suspension sensor.

They have replaced the sensor, and the problem appears to have been sorted....for now! I will update if there is any re-occurence, although seeing the replaced part, it looks obvious that is what the fault was. Hopefully LR will ensure all sensors are completely watertight in future.

Hi Alan,

I'm glad your problem was resolved.  The corrosion problem you mention may be new to your LR3 but we have seen electronic corrosion for some time, especially with units located under the carriage (body) of the vehicle.

Over the years, I've replaced lightbulb holders and an entire harness due to this corrosion problem.  I have since taped and sealed most of those components that are exposed to the possibility of water ingress.

Thank you for sending me your resolution info. I will make sure to pass this on to other LR owners on your behalf.

Regards,

JohnMc
