Land Rover Repair: landy running, power steering pump, water pump

this is a 90 1987 E 2.5 td, just latley i have heard a metal rubbing noise when the car is in motion at the same speed as the car mostly when i am slowing down (not breaking )what could this be?

Hi Jimmy,

this could be a bearing failure in one of the components mounted on your engine.  Check the alternator, water pump or power steering pump for noises.  Eventually, this bearing will fail and you'll be without use of the engine.  Have a local mechanic listen for bearing failures and find this problem before you find yourself stranded somewhere.  It is worth the cost and will avoid a towing charge.

I suspect the alternator...I always suspect the alt...its the weakest component I've found so far!
