Land Rover Repair: Landrover Discovery TD5 2001, egr valve, vacuum problem

Question
Can you help on the following.  Vehicle had run for approx 6 miles and approx mile on cruise control at approx 40 mph average.  On excellerating out of cruise no response from the excellerator pedal, the engine stalled. On restarting the vehicle there was no response from the excellerator but lots of black sooty exhaust fumes and the car stalled again.  Car would idle but as soon as you got above 15 rpm the engine appeared to be over fueling at idle speed.  After approx 20 mins it ran again for about 1 mile and the above happened again. Can you advise. It appeared to be getting max fuel whilst on idle and the engine choking itself

Answer
Hi Andy,

Could this be a vacuum problem?  Other owners seem to think its related to the fuel pump or maybe your injectors.  Since you state "getting max fuel", I am leaning towards a problem with the turbo, blocked air filter or maybe a jammed EGR valve.

Did it start with the cruise control failure? Have cc checked to make sure it cutout correctly.

Best of luck,
