Land Rover Repair: LR Discovery (1995) Electric Window not working, continuity testing, wiring loom

Question
One front electric window fails to operate.

I have taken centre console apart and swapped switches over and still the window fails to operate indicating that switch is OK.

I have taken window winder assemble out of the door and can activate the winding maechanism by applying 12V to terminals indicating that electric moter is Ok (also reversed the voltage and winder reverses direction.

Thus fault is somewhere between switch and electric motor inside wiring loom.

Where should I start looking for fault

Answer
Hi Mal Clark,

to borrow a phrase from a former US president, "I share your pain..."

I have been plaqued with window troubles.  I even avoid lowering my windows for fear of them not raising afterwards.

If you have trouble in the wiring loam, this is beyond my ability.  You can try www.discoweb.org for some help or even www.disco2.com (more for series II Disco's).

I suppose you've tried continuity testing of the wires.  Nothing is more troublesome than a line break.

Give those sites a try and if they don't have any answers, write me back and I'll talk to a LR mechanic on your behalf.

Regards,

JohnMc
