Land Rover Repair: Questions about 1999 Disco II problems, vacuum lines, rear windows

Question
I have two problems, the first is that my rear windows will not go up or down (with any of the buttons) and my cruise ocntroll doesn't work.

Any idea where to start looking. As for the windows I have looked for defective fuses (none) and check for voltages on the switches (none). It looks as if the switches in the center console switch only ground and not 12V

Answer
Hi Ronald,

The rear window problem is common for our Disco's - both your series II and my older series I.  Usually, its associated with either a faulty MFU (multi-function unit) or the window ECU (not the engine ECU).  The soldered joints are prone to cracking and shorting out.  Its a real pain.  In a previous question, I told a fellow owner how to bypass the MFU and raise the windows - if you are ever in a 'pinch'.

The cruise control problem could be vacuum related.  You'll have to have the vacuum lines tested to determine if they are up to snuff!   Then there is the actual switch that can break down.  I've had mine replaced.

Best of luck, Ronald.
