Land Rover Repair: Range Rover Wont turn over, security signals, electrical faults

Question
I have a 1996 range rover 4.0 se my son and I were getting in the car. He pulled the door handle before I had a chance to turn off the factory alarm. Now the truck wont turn over at all Im getting nothing not a sound. is their something the alarm could be doing to stop the truck from starting? Im getting a sound like a spring noise  comming from the stering whell area when I turn the key in the ignition. Can you give me a couple of ideas of what may be wrong before I tow it into the shop. the lights and radio work fine and the battery is fully charged.

Answer
Hi Anthony,

that is a strange problem.  You could try disconnecting the negative cable from your battery.  This should reset any latent security signals (?) that are pending.  Reconnect the cable after a 10 seconds.  You'll have to key in the radio security code.

To be sure all is well, once you've reconnected the battery cable, activate then deactivate the security system a few times.  Does the security system engage and release? If it does not, you may have a immobiliser problem and you'll have to seek help from a LR dealer.

I hope it's just a glitch coupled with LR's weird electrical faults.  I have seen something like this but it was related to a burnt out sidemarker bulb.

Best of luck with this and let me know if the reset helps.
