Land Rover Repair: service engine light, electronic gadgets, negative cable

Question
How to kill service engine light?I have a range rover 4.0 se 1996
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Ed,

to reset the service engine light, disconnect the negative cable from the battery for about 3 seconds.  Reconnect cable and be prepared to enter the radio code and correct time for your clock.

Once this is done, if your service engine light re-appears, you have a serious enough problem to warrant a visit to your local LR dealer.

There is a OBDII code display usually found under the passenger seat.  To read the code, (before you reset the code) insert your ignition key and turn the key to the ACC position.  All your electronic gadgets should light up and function BUT not your engine.  At this point, check the code display for any fault codes (ie. P0171, P045, ...).

If you find a code and are interested in what it means, or what component is triggering the error, come back and let me know.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
