Land Rover Repair: Range Rover 1998, ecu exchange, shop index

Question
After a complete stop and haul to the nearest garage, I have been told that my ECU has to be replaced. The stop was due to a shut down by the alarm system, whereas the diesel inlet were shut down. The garage re-set the ECU (found error message) and the car is running again. But they told me that this could / will happen again? I have experienced this problem twice now. Have you encountered this problem and is there a way to fix it. Further, is there any dealers in the UK who hold ECU's to RR with 2.5 diesel engine (BMW).

Sincerely, Øystein Worren in Norway.

Answer
Hei fra Canada,

Øystein, if you are having ECU problems it may be to your advantage to replace it.  I have known some dealers to sell used ECU's.  You are in a better position than Rangie owners in North America as you are much closer to the UK.  I knew a fellow from EU who was giving advice to Rangie and Disco owners.  He would point to the following sites...

So, try these websites for help "on your side of the pond":

http://www.landrovernorway.com/

http://www.mm-4x4.com/Shop/index.htm (has an ECU exchange program)

http://landroverweb.com/ (great LR directory)

Jeg ønsker De godt hell,
