Land Rover Repair: Radio Removal, land rover discovery, radio pop

Question
I have a 1997 Land Rover Discovery and am having problems with the heat/AC blower control unit but can't get to it without removing the radio. I can't figure out how to remove it. I have the shop manual but it is of little help. It mentions a special tool. Is there a way to remove it without the tool? What can I do?

Answer
Hi Rick,

To remove radio, Pop the small vertical covers on each end of the radio. Find a metal coat hanger cut it into 2 pieces about 10 inches each. Bend them in a "U" You will see two sets of two holes on each side of the radio. Slide your "special tool" in the holes pretty far and the radio should come out.

Good luck,

Thanx, Dave
