Land Rover Repair: td5 misfire, discovery td5, valve clearances

Question
I have a 1999 Discovery TD5 2.5l diesel engine. It has an intermittent engine fault. When you drive the engine hard and it reaches about 3000 revs it starts to mis fire and the engine stutters. If the engine is driven slowly it is fine, notice it more when trying to overtake, or towing caravan up steep hills and you have to increase revs before changing gear. I also think it does this which in low revs and is almost ready to change down a gear it. Any help would be appreciated

Reg,

have you had your Disco TD5 serviced yet?  I am interested in knowing what was diagnosed.

Hi Reg,

this sounds like either incorrect valve clearances or your injectors problem.  Have your injectors thoroughly cleaned and inspected.  If this does not clear up the problem look to valve clearance adjustments.

Someone once told me that in very cold temps, wax can form in the fuel and cause power loss but your problem soundds more consistent.  It could even be an injection pump timing problem.

I hope this helps.  Let me know what happens,
