Land Rover Repair: Engine noise, alternator problems, alpine radio

Question
I've have a reoccurring problem with my 96 discovery SD. I keep getting the engine noise coming through the stereo system. It's a loud buzzing sound, that gets louder when you step on the gas. I've had the alternator replaced which fixed it for about 6 months. I had it replaced again and the noise returned within 3 days. The battery was replaced which corrected the problem for a few weeks and I'm getting the noise again! Any ideas? I can't believe the alternator would go bad that fast..... HELP!

Answer
Hello Carl,

negative feedback usually indicates radio problem.  I had a Panasonic radio once that had the same trouble.  It picked up the electrical current from the alt and spark plugs.
An alpine radio in another one of my cars had the exact problem too.

Have your radio checked out at a local shop.  More than likely they will find a problem within the radio and its feed to the speakers.

As for alternator problems...get use to it.  I've replaced 3 alts todate!  I have deduced that as soon as your battery begins to fail, the alt becomes affected.  I replaced my original battery with a new Interstate battery.  So far...so good.

Best of luck,
