Lexus Repair: code 22 wont clear 1993 ls400, computer freaks, airbag warning light

Question
I recently had my instrument cluster rebuilt. After I installed it back in my airbag light came on. I know from doing a search that it’s a common issue. The problem I have is the code wont clear. I took the car to my mechanic who had a code reader. He tried to clear it and couldn’t. He said that it has a code 22. I checked the book and it says that possible causes are SRS warning light, center airbag sensor assembly, or the wire harness. I took the cluster back out and checked the connections and the wire harness. I cannot see any problems. Is my center airbag sensor bad? What is the life expectancy of the sensor?

Answer
Yup! Sometimes the ABS computer freaks when it looses the cluster connections.
Code 22 tells you that there is a fault in the airbag warning light system. If the airbag light won't light, code 22 trips until it's fixed.

Start by resetting it.

Clear malfunction code stored in memory
1. Turn ignition switch LOCK, and wait at least 2 seconds.
2. Turn ignition switch ACC or ON, and wait at least 20
seconds.
3. Connect terminals Tc and E1 of DLC2.
SST 09843–18020
4. Check diagnostic trouble code.

(The airbag light will blink any stored codes repeatidly, if no codes, it will blink on & off consistantly.)
If it doesn't blink, repalce the bulb & check the wiring. :)
