Lexus Repair: Catalytic Converter Red hot., lexus ls400, oxygen sensors

Question
Hey zak, I have a 1992 lexus Ls400. It has about 144,000 miles on it and I had it about a year. The check engine light has been on for about a year as well. Finnaly the car starts to decrease in power and when I get out theres a burning smell. Pipes from the catalytic converter where the oxygen sensors are located is igniting red hot. The car has bad acceleration now and I can put the pedal to the medal and its going to drag. I got the catalytic converter checked and they said that wasn't the problem but would be soon damaged by the problem. I checked the spark plugs and they were all burnt out, so I changed them and the check engine light went off. But under the car still ignites after I let it run for a while. The car isn't drivable at all. I'm not sure if the oxygen sensors are bad or if theres something else causing the problem. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hello, What needs to be done is the codes that have made the check engine lamp come on need to be pulled so that you can figure out what needs to be done. Cats can run a couple of thousand dollars so you don't want to have to replace them because of a $200 part. I would bring it to a qualified Lexus shop.
