Lexus Repair: fluid leak above crank, crank pulley, lexus ls 400

Question
Zak, once again I need your help on a 1990 lexus ls 400. Dripping trans or power steering fluid cant tell from small hole above crank shaft seems to be from timing belt/water pump area behind plastic sheething right above crank pulley. Water pump is not leaking but I do hear a clancking noise in center front of engine . Car did over heat yesterday for first time. Is there any tran fluid running through that area of engine? Should I change water pump based on noise w no leak? engine starts up fine and runs smooth. thanks.

Answer
Hello Ray, It does sound like the water pump, factory fluid is redish in color and the pump will make noise when it is going bad. Also the Fan bracket which looks like the water pump but just supports than fan can also make noise when its bearing is on its way out.
