Lincoln/Mercury Repair: hope u can help, ford bronco, dome light

Question
QUESTION: hello well i have a question regarding my 94' Eddie Bauer ford bronco it has the 5.8l Windsor. i was driving home on leave when i noticed a burning smell it turns out the smell was the dome light. i noticed smoke coming from it. now the light doesn't turn on. however the kicker is at the same time as this my cruise control module went and my truck started shifting hard and late. if you have any answers or ideas id be very grateful.

ANSWER: Jake, I don't have access to wiring diagrams for that vehicle, but I'm almost positive that the cruise control & dome light are on the same fuse. if the smoke came from the dome light area, thats going to be your problem area. This could be a pinched wire, bad dome light assembly or anything in that area. Fix that problem, replace the fuse and you'll probably be good to go. If your not too worried about the dome light, but need your cruise NOW, cut the wires going to the dome light and black tape them on the harness side, replace the fuse and you should have cruise again.

QUESTION: well the cruise to me is a luxury the main thing im worried about is the shifting. im worried if it keeps up something in the transmission may get messed up. i have absolutely no experience with transmissions but im pretty sure it getting slammed into gear over and over again will mess something up. i appreciate your time and answer thank you.

Answer
Jake, I understand. If it were me, I'd get a subscription to http://www.alldatadiy.com/  and get all the wiring info I need. The first thing I would try is to cut the dome light out of the circuit and replace the fuse....to see if this helped the tranny.
