Lincoln/Mercury Repair: Sunroof repair, moon roof, sun moon

Question
1990 Lincoln sunroof is partially open and will not operate with moon roof switch. Can the roof be closed manually? How do I determine if th motor is bad? HELP!!!!

Answer
Gezzz, I answered this this morning. Hi Marvin, guess it didn't go through. I looked at the Lincoln page the give guys like me to see what they had there and according to the info they have, they did not offer a factory sun/moon roof in any car that year. So either their info is askew or you have an after market roof in your car. Which when I was at the dealer in those days, they did that a lot. So, when these guys put a roof in they sometimes had a plug near the back of the sliding roof. It could be a round plug, but it takes an allen key wrench to turn it. Look closely for something that will take an allen key. Most failures with these are the plastic gear strap. It is a long plastic piece with teeth on it and is driven by a gear that is on the motor. When you push the button you should hear the motor run. If not, check all your fuses. If the fuses are ok, then you need to check the switch with a VOM to make sure there is continuity when the button is pushed. Because there is nothing on the Lincoln site about a sun/moon roof there is no pin out for me to look at to tell you how to check the motor. I wish I had more for you.
