Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 94 Ford Bronco, 5.8L auto transmission problem, ford bronco xlt, cottman transmission

Question
It's a 1994 Ford Bronco XLT, 5.8L engine, automatic transmission.  The Programmable Speed/Odometer Module (PSOM) in those vehicles apparently get readings from the speed sensor and feed those to things that control cruise control, shifting, etc.

-----Question-----
Intermittently, my Bronco shifts too late, and very hard, as I accelerate.  Sometimes, I can go for weeks without it happening; sometimes it happens almost daily.  A reputable tranny shop rebuilt the transmission and changed the speed sensor, and they are confident it's an electrical problem of some sort.  I've read articles about faulty PSOMs causing similar issues.  Is that something I should pursue?  Can I purchase and replace a PSOM myself or is that something I need the dealership to do?
-----Answer-----
Hi Keith,

I never heard of a PSOM so I will read up on it. In the mean time I need the year of your Bronco and model.

Answer
Hi Keith,

Yeah, no this PSOM is not the issue. I have been doing this for 28 years and have never replaced one. So the odds are good that that's not it. I suggest you run it down and have it scanned again. Auto Zone or Cottman transmission are 2 that I know will scan it for free. The light does not have to be on to retrieve codes. The codes will be stored in memory. After doing that, let me know the code numbers and will will get this fixed for you.
