Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 1995 mercury sable speedometer, vehicle speed sensor, mercury sable

Question
I am having two problems with this car and such. one, the speedometer is bouncing around like crazy when i accelerate, wiggles alot when i slowly apply the gas. for instances, when i know i'm going at least 25-30mph, the thing skyrockets to 50-60 or even 80mph. what do i gotta do to stabilize it?

Answer
Hey Alex,

The speedo works on an electronic speed sensor on the transmission. I would start by replacing the OUTPUT speed sensor or what we call the VSS, vehicle speed sensor. It is located towards the front of the transmission and has a 2 prong connecter and a round plug as where the old style had a cable going to it. It's black in color. Let me know if this takes care of the problem, otherwise we need to do some other stuff.
