Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 1996 Mercury Villager, haynes repair manual, radiator hoses

Question
I want to change the coolant and radiator hoses for my Villager.  I the Haynes Repair Manual which said that I need to 1) remove the air relief plug cap (top of the engine) 2) remove the air relief cap for the heater pipe (don't know where this is), to allow the air to escape throught these bleed ports.  I have never seen this.  It also said to temporary insert a wire to the radiator cap to prevent pressure forming during bleeding.  On other vehicles, the only place I bleed the air out is through the radiator air relief plug on the other side of the radiator.  Are all these extra steps really necessary?  Wouldn't all traped air will eventually escape through the coolant reservoir?

Answer
I agree with you Gary, it seems like a number of extra steps when any trapped air will end up in the return... Remember to turn your key on and set your inside temp to the highest setting to allow the trapped anti-freeze in the heater core escape. Even that might not be necessary, but I do it that way. Peace of mind maybe. Good luck and Happy motoring!
