Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 1997 MERCURY SABEL TRANS, cottman transmissions, warranty problems

Question
I HAVE A 1997 MERCURY SABEL THAT NEEDS A AX4N METRIC TRANSMISSION I CAN ONLY FIND AFFORDABLE ONES THAT CAME OUT OF A TARUS WILL THIS BE THE SAME ONE?

Answer
Hi Tiffany,

Sorry your having trouble with your car. Sable/Taurus transmissions are identical in every way. But be very careful. The ones you find in junk yards are almost 10 years old to fit your car. If the person that owned that car only drove 10,000 miles a year, the transmission would have 100,000 miles on it and if it even works, will not have much life left in it. On the other hand if you are looking to purchase one online you run into warranty problems. This is why their online prices seem so reasonable. If you supply someone the transmission and it fails, the company you bought it from will EVENTUALLY send you another one, you will be resposible for shipping back the bad one and the guys that put it in to begin with will charge you again because warranties cover what we do. They didn't build it, just installed it. Another choice would be the dealer. A gajillion dollars and a 3 year warranty. Best choice is to take it to a Cottman and let them diagnose the problem for free. You didn't explain what the car is doing so I'm taking your word you even need a transmission. So even if you do need one then let a transmission shop that has a good reputation and nationwide warranty and support rebuild it for you. That's why I suggest Cottman Transmissions. If you need to find one near you look at cottman.com. There's a coupon on the website as well. Hope this helped sort things out. Let me know how it all works out!
