Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 91 Sable Tranny Issues, hot rodder, vacuum leak

Question

I did find one vacuum leak... I'm an old time hot rodder from way back (I currently have a 74 Nova with a 383 Stroker and a four speed).

I also have at least as many tools as most mechanics!

I checked each vacuum tree that comes off the engine... I found one that wouldn't hold vacuum... I traced it to a worn out vacuum line...
I replaced all the lines in that tree.

I had disconnected the battery while doing so to clear the codes.

When everything was back together, the car ran much smoother that it had been for a while, the power was about the same, but after it warmed up, the stutter was still there although not near as bad.

I don't think that I had the battery disconnected long enough as the presets in the radio held.

I still plan to take the car in to my local Cottman's.

Thanks again!

Answer
Hi Scott,

To completely clear all memory in the car, you would disconnect both cables from the battery and hold them together for 15 seconds. That's why the radio held. You still may have codes stored if you didn't do this. Try to keep that Nova on the ground! Sounds like s fun car...
