Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 90 escort, radio speakers, dash lights


Question
the radio i got is the original,it works but the speakers do not.today i ran into a new problem.while i was driving the car started jumping and it died on me ,i had to jump it to get it to start,3 minutes later it did it again,it happened 3 time till i finally left a car starter(jump starter) connected to the battery till i got home.
do you think it has anything to do with the BTN fuse?
and why my car went dead while i wad driving?

HELLO THERE,
I HAVE A 1991 FORD ESCORT.MY DASH LIGHTS WENT OUT AND MY RADIO SPEAKERS
QUIT WORKING AND THE BATTERY LIGHT IS ON.
WHEN I CHECKED MY FUSES I FOUND THAT THE FUSE LABLED BTN 40A IS
BURNED.WHEN I CHANGED IT OUT IT SPARKED IMMEDIATLY .
WHAT IS THE BTN? AND HOW CAN I LOCATE THE SHORT CIRCUIT?

Me thinks you have an issue with the speaker wire or power to the radio wire(s). Oddly, you didn't mention that the stereo does or doesn't work. If you have an after market stereo in there, then the light in it is a seperate wire than the power to the radio. This may make the radio appear to be on. So then it might be that the person that installed the radio connected it through the power side of the dash lights. Possibly overloading the fuse and blowing it. That fuse is to the dash lights amoung a couple of other things depending on the model you have. it will show this in your owner's manual. Resubmit with more info so we can fix this problem, if we didn't all ready... Hope this helps!

Trying to picture what you did, I would think that you have a bad alternator. It's not charging the battery enough to keep the car running. To test this theory, start the car and then disconnect the battery. If the car dies, bad alternator, if it keeps running then bad battery... easy?
